About Me

I am a Practitioner Psychologist and an Accredited Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience of working in academia, the NHS and in the private sector.

I offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) for a range of psychological difficulties using individualised formulation approaches to understanding and treating clients’ difficulties. My treatment methods are firmly rooted in the science of clinical psychology and are informed by the latest research in the field. In my clinical work I aim to create an empathic environment within which clients can challenge and modify their ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, to enable greater psychological flexibility and growth.

I completed a PhD in Psychology at King’s College London and clinical training in CBT at University College London. I have published numerous academic papers in the field of clinical psychology and CBT (see Google Scholar), and am Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Mental Health at Kingston University, where I was the Course Director of a MSc in Clinical Applications of Psychology programme for more than 10 years.

Beyond my core training in CBT, I have trained in various other psychotherapeutic approaches including Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), humanistic therapy, MCT, mindfulness approaches and Schema-focussed therapy. In my clinical work I may draw on these different psychotherapeutic approaches, but my predominant modalities of therapy are CBT, MCT and ACT.

Professional registrations: Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), Accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Practitioner with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and registered Metacognitive Therapy Practitioner with the Metacognitive Therapy Institute.
